Microsoft founder Bill Gates has always been quite active in his life. He started a charity William H. Gates Foundation with his wife Melinda to support global health programs and others. The foundation later became popular as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 1999. When he was only 17, he and his friend Allen started a venture called Traf-O-Data. They would study traffic counters and prepare reports based on the raw data for traffic engineers. They also created school’s payroll system. At the age of 13, Bill came up with the first software program. His growing interest in programming helped him create tic-tac-toe game for computer users.

At Harvard, he happened to meet Steve Ballmer, who later succeeded him as Microsoft CEO after his resignation from the post. They wanted Bill to become a lawyer.
