  1. I am writing regarding Wegmans policy. We have shopped at Wegmans for many many years in the Syracuse, N.Y. area. Our opinion of Wegmans and our customer loyalty has always been very high, until of late.

Across the street from our new apartment building in Montvale, N.J. is a wonderful Wegmans supermarket, it is literally within walking distance which makes it very convenient to shop in our most favorite supermarket. One of our senior family members has a benefit card through United Health Care Insurance. We were shocked and very disappointed that Wegmans does not accept this U-Card for food purchases. Instead of being truthful and stating that Wegmans doesn’t accept this card, we were questioned as to whether this card was a VISA or MASTERCARD. Skirting the issue and being dishonest is not what we would expect from Wegmans. Other supermarkets in our area do accept the U-Card, i.e. STOPnSHOP, ACME, KING’S, WALMART and of course CVS & WALGREENS.

We contacted Wegmans Corporate Headquarters in Rochester, N.Y. inquiring about Wegmans’ policy of not accepting the U-Card. The nice representative explained the usual company rhetoric that it was being considered but nothing is being done at this time; it was alluded to a time period of a year or more, and that was a big maybe!

The Wegman’s family fortune has been built on their customer’s patronage and loyalty. It boggles my mind that with all of the wealth acquired over the years, especially the company’s recent estimated 2023 value at between 25-30 billion dollars, that the attitude towards your elderly customers would be so callous. The Wegman family being of Christian values, it would seem that compassion and service to others would be paramount in the Wegmans’ policy. Unfortunately, it is not.

I wish Wegmans and the Wegman family no ill. In fact, I am going to pray for them as it seems it is much needed. I am very saddened that from such wealth would come such little regard for those who have helped make your brand such a huge monetary success, especially the elderly.

I do know that we as a family will not hold Wegmans in our usual high regard if something is not done, post-haste, to correct your terrible & unfair policy levied against your elderly customer base!

    Very truly,

    Henry Philip Vigé
