Instacart CEO – Apoorva Mehta (Age – 35)

Apoorva Mehta is the founder and CEO of an online grocery company called Instacart (headquartered in San Francisco, California). Today, the Indian-American businessperson has become one of the youngest billionaires globally. He is counted among the richest entrepreneurs of America after witnessing an exponential jump in his wealth due to the success of his grocery services business.

Apoorva started the same-day delivery and pick up services app back in 2012, reportedly after failing 20 times over 2 years in his attempt to launch a successful start-up. Some of them included e-commerce marketplace for food, gaming ad networks, and social network for lawyers. These failures taught him an important lesson that one should start a company to solve a problem and not just for starting one. And that turned his focus to the inconvenience of shopping for groceries for a busy person and consequently, led to the birth of his online grocery ordering and delivery services firm.

To make this happen, Instacart CEO Apoorva decided he will not visit the grocery store until his app was ready and worked day and night on this. He created the first version of the app by himself. He started the company with Max Mullen and Brandon Leonardo.

Learning from his continuous failed attempts, Mehta realized that problem-solving has to be the company’s key focus. Consequently, he founded the online grocery delivery app Instacart in 2012 so that busy people don’t have to rush for grocery shopping every week.
