In 2002, ConocoPhillips was formed as a consequence of the merger between Phillips Petroleum Company and Conoco, Inc. In 2001, he worked with Phillips Petroleum Company as GM of Lower 48 and Canadian operations.

In 1998, he was at ARCO Alaska working as VP of Western North Slope. Between 1996 and1998, he served Vastar Resources as Planning Manager.
