The Truecaller CEO Alan Mamedi started his mobile app company with his college friend Nami Zarringhalam in 2009 for their personal use. What made them come up with such idea were the incessant calls from employers from different countries who would insist him to delete bad reviews that were posted on his employer review website Jobbigt.se, which he and his college mate had built. Since he did not remember caller’s name and number, he could not avoid those calls. To tackle that, he thought of creating universal call ID that would enable him to filter calls he did not intend to answer. And thus was born Truecaller. An arm of True Software Scandinavia AB (Swedish Company), Truecaller has become a topnotch search technology company with offices in Stockholm, San Francisco, Bangalore, and Delhi. It has 100 million active users today. To widen its reach, the mobile app platform has raised funds from Sequoia Capital and Atomico among others. From being a simple caller ID and spam blocking service provider, the app has evolved into a communications platform that offers SMS, calling, and payment services too among others.

Before starting Truecaller in 2009, Alan worked as Chief Architect at Birdstep Technology from October 2008 to February 2010. Prior to that, he Co-founded a search engine company for home interior Möbeljakt.se (2007-2010), and Jobbigt.se (January 2009 to July 2009). He has also founded an auction website Bidding.se in 2006.
