Before founding Baidu, Li was serving Infoseek as a staff engineer from 1997 to 1999. Prior to that, from 1994 to 1997, he worked as a Programmer at Dow Jones and Company’s New Jersey division, IDD Information Services. He was responsible for building an online platform for The Wall Street Journal and developing better search engine algorithm.
